One of the longest running and largest keelboat regattas in the country. The Giesen New Year Regatta attracts boats from all parts of New Zealand and is sailed in five divisions across two days.
Preceded by a Friday night invitation race, the regatta offers everything from high performance 'round the cans' racing (Divisions 1-3) to longer 'cruising' type courses including a 'white sails' option (Divisions 4 and 5). With the great cruising offered in Queen Charlotte Sound, many boats include the regatta as part of a relaxed summer cruising break.
