Editorial: Sensible outcome to cycling death case
In the war of the roads – cyclists versus cars – it often seems that the first rule of engagement is, might is right. The bigger the vehicle, the greater the forces it is capable of generating; so to that extent it makes sense for other road users to apply the precautionary principle. Regardless of legal "rights", it also makes sense for the more vulnerable to be the most vigilant and less assertive, a position seated primarily in self-preservation.
